Today’s must-read stories 📰

By 2028, 33% of enterprise software will feature agentic AI, enabling autonomous decision-making for 15% of daily tasks.

Nearly a third of UK small businesses are hesitant to adopt AI, despite recognizing its benefits, with concerns about employee pushback and a desire for user-friendly AI solutions.

A recent survey found that 64% of customers prefer companies not to use AI in customer service, with over half willing to switch to competitors if AI is used.

Move over HR, AI is here

Jack Ryan was recently interviewed by an AI avatar, part of a hiring process run by Fairgo.ai, a company that uses AI agents to conduct interviews on behalf of other businesses.

It was an interesting process, to say the least.

Key takeaways

  • Ryan's interviewer, a woman with red hair, was an AI avatar created by Fairgo.ai, designed to interact with candidates via video and gather information for hiring companies.

  • Fairgo claims its AI agents ensure consistent, unbiased, and low-stress interviews, with no audio or video used for evaluation—only a transcript is analyzed.

  • Julian Bright, Fairgo's CEO, stated that Fairgo does not decide who advances in the hiring process; that decision is left to the hiring companies.

  • Ryan criticized the use of AI in interviews, arguing that it lacks the human connection essential for assessing candidates and is simply a cost-cutting measure by companies.

  • As a disabled individual reliant on remote work, Ryan expressed concerns that AI interviewing could undermine diversity and inclusion (DEI) efforts.

  • Despite his skepticism, Ryan did progress to the next round, but even this notification was automated, highlighting the impersonal nature of the process.

Our thoughts

AI interviewing raises important questions about the future of hiring. While reducing human bias is a laudable goal, removing genuine human interaction may undermine the overall quality of candidate assessment.

As technology increasingly infiltrates hiring, companies must consider whether automation truly promotes fairness or simply sacrifices the human element that makes for effective team building and inclusion.
